Make health spending tax-smart.
Help your patients pay for therapy, psychiatry, ketamine and TMS with HSA and FSA funds, with receipts their plan will accept.
Why Eligible
Mental health services are generally eligible medical expenses, but cash-pay practices often make HSA and FSA payment awkward, and patients get receipts their plan will not accept.

Guides
Plain-language guides on using HSA and FSA funds for therapy, psychiatry, ketamine and TMS. Confirm details with your plan.
Questions practices ask
Is therapy HSA eligible?
Generally yes, when therapy treats a medical condition. The details depend on the service, your plan and whether the care treats a medical condition. Confirm with your plan. Read when therapy is HSA or FSA eligible.
Can you use an HSA for ketamine therapy, Spravato or TMS?
Spravato and TMS prescribed for a diagnosed condition usually qualify. Ketamine treatment may also qualify when a licensed prescriber provides it to treat a diagnosed condition, but plans differ. Confirm with your plan. Read the ketamine, Spravato and TMS guide.
What do HSA and FSA receipts need to show?
Plans usually want the provider name, date of service, a description of the service, the amount paid and, for some services, a diagnosis or statement of medical necessity. Confirm with your plan. See the receipt checklist.
Do you issue letters of medical necessity for wellness products?
No. We focus on medical services that already qualify. The IRS warned in 2024 that a doctor's note alone does not make general wellness spending eligible.
Does this replace my EHR billing?
No. It works alongside it.
Is this tax advice?
No. This is general information. Patients should check with their plan or a tax advisor.
Who is Eligible for?
Cash-pay and out-of-network behavioral health practices and their patients who want to use HSA or FSA funds for therapy, psychiatry, ketamine and TMS.
How much does Eligible cost?
Practice is $49 per month for unlimited receipts. Payments is 1% per transaction on top of standard processing, if processed through us.
Terms, in plain words
The words plans and practices use most when patients pay with HSA or FSA funds.
- HSA
- Health savings account. Funds in it can generally pay for eligible medical expenses, including therapy that treats a medical condition.
- FSA
- Flexible spending account. Like an HSA, it can generally pay for eligible medical expenses. Submit claims before your plan's deadline.
- Eligible medical expense
- Care that diagnoses or treats a medical condition. Whether a service qualifies depends on the service and your plan, so confirm with your plan.
- Itemized receipt
- A receipt that lists the provider, date of service, a description of the service and the amount paid. Plans usually ask for one.
- Superbill
- An itemized statement out-of-network clients can often submit to their insurer for partial reimbursement. HSA or FSA funds can then cover what they pay out of pocket.
- Letter of medical necessity (LMN)
- A note from a clinician that can support a claim. It does not turn a non-medical expense into a medical one.
